1. Public Pledge
Redkiwi publicly commits to limiting global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C, in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. We recognize our responsibility as an organization to measure, reduce, and, where necessary, offset our CO₂ emissions. We strive to continuously minimize our impact and report transparently on our progress.
2. Scope and Principles
Our climate impact primarily originates from:
- Energy consumption (office, hosting, cloud)
- Digital infrastructure (software, data storage, AI usage)
- Travel (commuting, business travel)
- Procurement (suppliers, catering, facility services)
We apply a pragmatic approach: we focus on the areas where we have actual influence, and make conscious choices where our direct influence is more limited.
3. SMART Goals
Goal 1 – Insight and Measurement
- Specific: Annually measure our CO₂ emissions.
- Measurable: Full CO₂ footprint established.
- Achievable: Use of recognized tools/standards (e.g., GHG Protocol-light).
- Realistic: Appropriate for the size of the organization.
- Time-bound: First measurement completed before Q4 2026, annually thereafter.
Goal 2 – Energy and Hosting Reduction
- Specific: Reduce CO₂ emissions from energy and hosting.
- Measurable: 15% reduction per FTE compared to baseline.
- Time-bound: By the end of 2028 at the latest.
- Actions:
- Preference for green hosting/cloud providers.
- Optimize data usage and storage.
- Maintain mindful awareness of AI and compute-intensive processes.
Goal 3 – Sustainable Mobility
- Specific: Reduce travel-related emissions.
- Measurable: 25% increase in sustainable business travel (public transport/bicycle/electric vehicle).
- Time-bound: End of 2028.
- Actions:
- Encourage remote/hybrid working.
- Preference for train over plane for distances under 700 km.
- Raise awareness within the team.
Goal 4 – Responsible Procurement
- Specific: Integrate sustainability into supplier selection.
- Measurable: 75% of suppliers assessed on sustainability.
- Time-bound: End of 2027.
- Actions:
- Implement supplier policy.
- Preference for sustainable energy, catering, and facility services.
Goal 5 – Offsetting (Supplementary)
- Specific: Offset remaining emissions.
- Measurable: 100% of measured emissions offset.
- Time-bound: Annually from 2027 onwards.
- Condition: Reduction first, offsetting second.
